Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew Trailbuilding School - THANKS!
June 2004 - Special thanks to Keswick Cyclery, Action
Wheels, the Natural Lands Restoration and Environmental Education Program
staff,
the Friends
of
the Wissahickon, the Delaware Valley Mountain Bike Patrol, the
Wissahickon Ranger Corps, and the attending local mountain bicyclists
for making the IMBA/Subaru Trail Care Crew Trailbuilding School in
the Wissahickon Valley Park, PA on June 19 and 20, a great success.
Special Thanks to the IMBA TCC, Chris and Jill, and Rich from Trail
Solutions!
2003 - 24 Hours of Allamuchy
August 2003 - We want to thank everyone who particpated in
the 24 Hours of Allumuchy this past weekend. Whether you
were a racer, team support or a race patroller, everyone was fantastic.
Everyone
came away safe, although
I can't say the same about some of our bikes! (P.S. Desitin works
well to ease monkey butt - one application should do the trick.)
Kudos to Joe, Steve, Barb and Lisa for preparing their respective
teams and to Mike G. for volunteering as a race patroller! Also,
thanks to JAR for extending our campsite to some new teams and to
some of the volunteer patrollers. Our global village added to the
overall success of the weekend.
Below are the results from the closest race of the event. JAR's team,
Wet Wood, with 19 laps missed 1st place by only one minute in the
5 person category. We will get'em next year! Other teams in the JAR
Global Village were "Bunny Hugs" competing in the 4-man
masters catagory. This team took 10th place with one woman on the
team. The "Farters" took 32nd place in the 4-man vet category.
The "Cheezers" took 4th place in the 5-person coed category
and the "Whiners" took 5th.
Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew Trailbuilding School
October 2002 -
A big Thank YOU to everyone who participated in the Subaru/IMBA
Trailbuilding School in the Wissahickon Valley Park with the TrailCare
Crew this
past weekend. It was great to see old friends and new faces
participating in what was an incredibly educational andentertaining
event. The
trail work we did over two days was tremendous. Everytime we ride
the Cathedral trail section coming down from the meadows we will
feel a real sense of accomplishment. It will be interesting to see
how our work holds up.
We all learned during the school that the Wissahickon
Valley Park trails, because of their design, require regular maintenance.
So don't forget, we schedule trail work parties on the 4th Saturday
of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Much thanks to IMBA
and Subaru for their support of the Trail Care Crew program and of
course Scott and Aaryn for spending several days with us. The Trail
Care Crew was amazed at the quality of riding in such an urban setting.
We
would be remised if we did not thank Steve Garwood, Dan Fiser, Joe
Roff, Cindy Abrams, Kurt Widmaier, Jason Livingood, Jason Smith,
Kathy Mulholland, Jennifer Jones, Mike Garcia, Dave Bower - the Volunteer
Coordinator for the Natural Lands Restoration and Environmental Education
Program, Pat Crossen - 3rd District Park Manager for the Fairmount
Park Commission, Monica Hicks - Chief Ranger for the Fairmount Park
Commission Ranger Corps Wissahickon, the Delaware Valley Mountain
Bike Patrol, the Jersey Off Road Bicycling Association. Everyone
played an important role to help make this event a success.
In two
days, we provided over 270 man-hours of volunteerism on behalf of
the mountain bike community! Outstanding! Check jerseyactionriders.org
for information on monthly trail work parties and, in a few days,
photos from our event. THANK YOU ALL!
Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew
April 2001 - Thanks to everyone who attended
our club meeting last week and the Trailbuilding School this past
weekend in the Wissahickon. The Subaru/IMBA
Trail Care Crew (Rich & Jen Edwards) appreciated the hospitality
at our meeting and all the hard work in supporting the weekend event.
Both were a great opportunity to learn what is happening on trails
throughout the land, learn about trail building, trail design and
maintenance. We also thank all our sponsors including Action Wheels,
The Friends of the Wissahickon, Bikesport, the Natural Lands Restoration
and Environmental Education Program and the Fairmount Park Commission.
A
special thanks goes out to Dan Fiser. He did an incredible job on
the planning, sign building, he provided much of the food for the
event, and was pretty much a key advisor through the entire process.
We could not have done it without him! He certainly kept me on track
and focused.
On the Sunday afternoon JAR ride (12:30 - Wissahickon),
the Trail Care Crew joined us. Comcast Sports Network was also on hand
to film us preparing our bikes and riding the trails. It was a spectacular
ride around the entire Wissahickon Park! We can count on IMBA for support,
especially in our collective efforts to keep bike access open in the
Wissahickon. We have begun a petition drive requesting the Fairmount
Park Commission adopt the bike pilot policy that has been in place
for five years as a permanent policy. Make
sure you sign this petition. They will soon be a local bike shops
and available at JAR rides and functions.
Trail Maintenance Report from Fair Hill
December 2001 - As mentioned earlier, we had a blast
with the Delaware Trail Spinners at their trail maintenance, nite ride,
and cookout on
Dec.
1st! Below is from a DTS e-news:
"U GO JAR ! Last weekend DTS hosted a trail work party at Fairhill.
Twelve Jersey Action Riders (JAR) joined forces with us for total work
force of 21 dedicated trail workers. GANG, BIG HAND SPANK FOR YOUR
DEDICATION AND HARD WORK. Afterward Fairhill permitted us to enjoy
a night ride and then fajitas, grilled sausage sandwiches, and beverages
under a full moon near the covered bridge. WHAT A DEAL.
The work crew
created a new swoopy switch-back with some very nice water diversion
devices and banked turns. Unfortunately we had to close a radical fall-line
downhill due to extreme erosion but in return we gained more trail
distance."
JAR Trip to Moab
September 2001 -
The JAR Moab Utah trip last week was a smashing success! A big thanks
to everyone involved with the planning and to everyone who participated.
We were on the trail every day! In order, we rode the Slick Rock Trail,
the Porcupine Rim Trail, Flat Pass, Amasa Back, the Kokopelli
Trail Loops in Fruita/Lomas Colorado, the Poison Spider Mesa Trail
and the Portal Trail! There are many stories to tell. We will have
trip photos and we will certainly be telling stories at the club meeting!
For
those of us waiting for Dan & Judy to return with our bikes
and equipment. They have been delayed in Ohio, but expect to be at
the Thursday night club meeting with the trailer. (7:00 p.m. at R.
Mac's Pub) We are beginning to discuss the next club trip out west,
possibly to Lake Tahoe, CA!
